I need to introduce myself. My name is Peter Fitzsimmons, I am a member of Emmanuel Covenant Community and my Parish is our Lady of Lourdes, Sunnybank. I am married to the love of my life Margaret and we have 2 children and 2 grand children. We have lived in Sunnybank for 15 years, and I work as a fitter and Margaret is a housekeeper.
Why you may ask am I sharing with you about the Catholic Church in east Timor.? Because of a Deacon named Gary Stone, who is an Australian Army Chaplain. Gary served in East Timor with 6 RAR in August / September last year, and he was asked by the Parish Priests in the Bobinaro District which includes the Parishes of Atabae, Balibo and Maliana, for help.
I heard Gary speak at a gathering and what Gary Shared moved me so much that it actually terrified me, because I knew that if I did nothing I would have to give an account for that, as James told the church in his letter, chapter 2 verses 14 to 17,
'What good is it , my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister has nothing to wear, and has no food for the day, and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, keep warm. And eat well," but you do not give the necessities of the body, what good is it? So also faith of itself, if it does not have works is dead.'
